Kurt Russell kicked Elvis Presley's shins in his first film role

Kurt Russell kicked Elvis Presley in the shins as a child in his first movie.

The actor was aged 11 when he starred opposite the late King of Rock and Roll in 1963's It Happened at the World's Fair - which sees pilot Mike Edwards (Presley) help a lost girl find her uncle at the Seattle World's Fair, where he meets cute nurse Diane Warren (Joan O'Brien).

Appearing on Wednesday night's (11.03.26's) episode of NBC's Late Night With Seth Myers, Russell recalled: "[Mike] wanted to have an excuse to meet this nurse, so he needs to figure out a way to go in there with something and he pays this kid 50 cents to kick him in the shins, so I got that job."

However, Presley - who died from heart failure aged 42 in August 1977 - had his shins protected for the scene.

Russell continued: "That's pre-CGI, right? So he had a pad on him, and everybody was a little worried about it."

The star admitted he took a blow to Presley's shins "about 10 times" before the Blue Suede Shoes hitmaker reacted.

Russell shared: "They said, 'Now, kind of go easy,' and I had shoes, not sneakers, and I'm looking at it like, 'I can't miss that,' and I did it about 10 times.

"Elvis was like, 'I think he's got it, I don't think I'm too worried about that.'"

The 74-year-old Hollywood legend also introduced Presley to his late dad, actor Bing Russell.

Russell - who, with Bing, played the Jailhouse Rock singer and his dad, Vernon, respectively, in the 1979 biopic Elvis - remembered: "We’re back in Los Angeles shooting, and my dad comes on the set with me, and Elvis was over there, and I see Elvis looking over. Really looking over.

"And now I’m going into the thing, he said, 'Is that your dad? Is that your father over there?' And I said, 'Yeah.' He said, 'Oh man, can I meet him?'

"He said, 'Mr. Russell, I love the way you wear your hat in all the cowboy movies you do. If I ever do a cowboy movie, would it be OK if I wore my hat your way?' That’s how cool a guy he was."

Bonanza star Bing - who died from complications of cancer aged 76 in April 2003 - agreed, as Russell added: "My dad said, 'Sure, Elvis, it'd be nice.'

"And he did! You ever see [Presley] in Charro? That's the way my dad wore his hat."
