Mia Goth felt 'scared' by Frankenstein role

Mia Goth felt "scared" before she began filming Frankenstein.

The 31-year-old actress has revealed that she felt anxious about working with acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro on the new movie, with Mia fearing that she might actually "ruin" the project.

The Hollywood star - who portrays Elizabeth Lavenza in the new film - told Variety: "I’ve never been so scared stepping into a movie. I really haven’t.

"It was a lot for me, and I was always in my head. I kept thinking to myself, ‘Guillermo del Toro is making Frankenstein, the movie you’ve always wanted him to make, and I get to be a part of that.’ And I was so scared that I was going to be the one bad thing in it, and I would ruin it."

However, Mia eventually meditated her way out of her self-doubt.

The actress - who earned her reputation as a so-called scream queen by playing Maxine Minx and Pearl in the X film series - shared: "I decided to feel that moment when you open your eyes, you have that calm and just a little bit more wisdom. That’s where Elizabeth was."

Mia stars in the new movie alongside Oscar Isaac, who plays the part of Dr. Frankenstein. The 46-year-old actor has praised the film's director for instilling confidence in himself and his co-stars.

Oscar explained: "He very quickly said this: ‘You cannot fail. I made this bespoke for you.’ He approached it the same way that Mary approached writing Frankenstein, which is making it a completely personal expression of what their experience has been, and it’s what he asked us to do as well.

"So as long as we were doing that in an honest, passionate way, there was no failing and there was no obligation."

Meanwhile, Mia previously revealed that she's "very director-driven".

The actress suggested that she was drawn to the X franchise because she wanted to work with Ti West, who directed all of the films in the series.

Mia told Vanity Fair in 2023: "I’m very director-driven.

"If I don’t trust the person who’s the head of the ship, I really don’t think there’s any point in being involved in something. So I watch their movies, or am a fan to begin with, and get an understanding of the worlds that they’re in."

Mia always does her research on directors before committing to any project.

The actress explained that she's always fully committed to her roles, explaining that she "would pretty much do anything" to improve her own performance.

Speaking about her approach to her work, Mia shared: "I enjoy seeing what movies have inspired them, what references they’re looking to. I would pretty much do anything for my role, to be good."
